ANNUAL PHOTO EXHIBIT FEATURES WORK OF DC STUDENTS

Our readers in Washington, D.C., and anyone attending the 9th Annual Quality Education Conference on May 7-8, 2009, may be interested in the following event and exhibit related to the education crisis in our urban centers. Critical Exposure will be presenting its 4th Annual "Through the Lens of D.C. Youth" Photography Exhibit. Nearly 50% of D.C. students don’t graduate from high school, and only 9% get a college degree. See through the eyes of D.C. youth as they share their photos of the causes and consequences to D.C.’s graduation crisis.

The exhibit will be held at the downtown ARTiculate Gallery (1100 16th St. NW) from May 4th-15th. The opening night event is on Wednesday, May 6th from 6:30-9:00pm. To RSVP for the event, click here. If you would like to pay in advance, you can do so here, up to 24 hours in advance of the event. If you would like to pay at the door, please remember to bring cash or checks.

Critical Exposure's goal is to help students and organizations advocate more effectively for excellence and equity in public education. The organization was founded in 2004 by a former educator and an education policy analyst in response to the drastic disparities that exist among public schools.

By empowering young people to develop skills as documentary photographers and advocates, we expose citizens and policymakers to the realities of our current two-tiered education system as seen through the eyes of the students who confront those realities each day.

Through this approach Critical Exposure works to secure policy changes in order to ensure that all children have access to an excellent, equitable public education, fulfilling this nation's promise of providing all children with an opportunity to succeed.
